Elementary Code of Conduct – Preamble

I. Preamble

Code Of Conduct

The intent of this Code of Conduct is to promote responsible behavior that creates an orderly and safe school environment. It is the belief of the Central Valley Central School District that everyone in our community must strive toward contributing to this goal. The objective is to develop a moral school community based on:

  • Responsible Behavior – Use self control in your actions and language.

  • Mutual Respect – Treat yourself and others with care and consideration.

  • Concern for Others – Be truthful, honest and fair in your dealings with others.

  • Cooperation – Listen and work together to make a positive contribution.

  • Personal Excellence – Put forth your best effort in whatever you attempt.

Student Behavior

All teachers are requested to be on the alert for any student behavior which is in violation of school regulations. Students should behave in a manner that will be a credit to our school. The privilege of participating in and attending extra-curricular activities will depend on school behavior and daily attendance. The privilege may be removed after a parent conference and written notification to a student.

Each member of the school community is expected to be responsible for his/her own behavior. The rules of conduct focus on personal safety and respect for the rights and property of others and apply in the classrooms and throughout the school system and at all school related activities on or off school property.

Character

What is Character? Character is who we really are.  It’s what we do when no one is looking.  It is how we treat people who we think cannot help or hurt us.  It’s the accumulation of our thoughts, values, words, and actions.  These become the habits that comprise our character.  That character determines our destiny.

Everyone has a character of some sort, but not everyone “has character.” Having character means being a person who is admirable because of his/her self-assured, good ethical behavior.  It is distinguishing right from wrong and having a strong commitment to do what is right even when it is inconvenient, uncomfortable, or personally costly.  Character thus is ethics in action.

Watch your thoughts;
They become your words.
Watch your words;
They become your actions.
Watch your actions;
They become your habits.
Watch your habits;
They become your character.
Watch your character;
It becomes your destiny.
