Four CVA foreign language students have earned the NYSED Seal of Biliteracy.  Seniors Austin Tubia, Lauren Jory, Christopher Torres, and Delaney Francisco joined other seal winners from Dolgeville and Herkimer high schools for a recognition ceremony in the CVA LGI on June 7.

Students earning the seal have demonstrated an intermediate to high level of competency in a second language. In addition to demanding coursework, students must complete the following in the second language:

  • A 10-minute presentation on a topic of their research,
  • A personal interview,
  • A research project,
  • Article reviews, and
  • An essay comparing and contrasting an aspect of culture in their country and the United States.

Those students receive honor cords to wear at graduation and a Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas.

"We are so proud of these students," said CVA Spanish teacher Liza Gonzalez.

"They are a part of a select group of students who put in the time and effort to earn this distinction."
