This fall, Jarvis Middle School held it first annual "Club Expo." The event showcases the wide array of afterschool activities that are available to all middle school students.

During their lunch periods, students had a chance to check out informational posters and pick up  handouts highlighting club activities. Topics include sports, cooking, the arts, debate, newspaper, and more. If they found something they liked, students added their names to sign-up sheets.

"We encourage all of students to join a club," said Assistant Principal Luke Manolescu.

"Afterschool activities are key to feeling like you're a part of school. Students meet other students who share their interests and build new friendships while doing something they like. Building those connections makes school a place students want to come."

Each day's morning announcements include important club news. This includes when the clubs start, when they meet, and any other important reminders.

Mr. Manolescu praises the adults who make these activities possible. Teachers and other staff suggest new clubs. They volunteer their time for the first year to build the program and show that students are truly interested.

"Thank you to all Jarvis teachers and staff who create such wonderful opportunities for our students after school; you rock," he said.
