CVA Juniors Grace Lally and AJ Joyce both ran personal bests at the Section 3 Cross Country Sectional Finals on Saturday, Nov. 4 to qualify for the New York State Championship Cross Country Meet.

Grace is the first girl in Central Valley history to qualify for States.  She placed fifth, earning the final qualifying spot with a time 22:04.

AJ is the first boy since 2019 to qualify. He finished third with a time of 18:30.

"Both athletes needed to run their best race of the season to even have a chance to qualify," said CVA coach Michael Farber.

"Their positive attitudes and the ability to mentally push themselves allowed them to compete and succeed against a fast field on a tough course."

The two will represent Central Valley and Section 3 at States on Saturday, Nov. 11 at VVS.
